But within its depths lurks a shadow, a dangerous lure that promises wealth at the cost of innocence. They say those who stumble in its current are forever consumed by the river's power, their lives forever twisted into a tragic melody.
When the Tanks Burst
On January 15th, 1919, Boston was struck by a disaster unlike any other. A massive tank filled with molasses burst open in the here city's North End, unleashing a wave of sticky sweetness that crashed through the streets like a tsunami. The flood, standing at least 25 feet in some areas, was catastrophic. Structures succumbed under the power of the sticky goo.
The aftermath was heartbreaking. Twenty-one people lost their lives, and many more sustained wounds. The flood also caused ruin to property, leaving a trail of molasses carnage in its wake.
